TATTOO APPRENTISHIPS

The tattoo journey…

Thank you for reaching out to our tattoo studio regarding apprenticeships. We understand that becoming a professional tattoo artist is an exciting and rewarding career path. Allow us to provide you with valuable information on the options available for apprenticeships. In the tattoo industry, apprenticeships typically fall into two categories: unpaid apprenticeships and paid courses. Please keep in mind that, like all students in the art field, students will pay to go to university for study courses or art classes. However, there is a small difference within the tattoo industry as apprenticeships offer a few extra benefits. Let's explore each option further:

1. Unpaid Apprenticeships:

These apprenticeships involve trading your time and dedication in the studio in exchange for valuable hands-on experience and mentorship. During this period, you will work closely with experienced tattoo artists, learning various techniques, developing your own artistry, and gaining proficiency in handling tattoo equipment. While unpaid apprenticeships may not offer monetary compensation, they provide you with the opportunity to immerse yourself in the tattoo industry, learn from professionals, and build a strong foundation. These apprenticeships usually require a significant time commitment, as you will spend countless hours honing your skills and assisting with studio tasks. Benefits: If an artist is lucky enough to gain an apprenticeship in a very good studio, this can catapult their career forward by a few years. Artists doing apprenticeships exclusively in high-premium tattoo studios are also able to move their artwork into a style that they want to work in and build up their brand. On the other hand, studios that are below par apprentices don't have that luxury and would be mostly tattooing walk-in type tattoos, which may not align with their desired career. Apprentices are also able to use the studio's clientele base as a platform to build up their own clientele base. The better the studio and the more they invest in the apprenticeship, the larger the clientele base available for the artist. For example, our apprentice Ihler has now been tattooing for one and a half years, has a current clientele base of around a 2 to 3 month waiting list, and is able to pick and choose the style of tattooing she wants to do.

2. Paid Courses:

Another option for aspiring tattoo artists is to enroll in a paid tattoo learning program or course. These programs typically have a structured curriculum and require a financial investment. Some courses can cost up to $10,000 or sometimes even higher in a tattoo studio. In return, you will receive comprehensive training, guidance, and sometimes even certification upon completion. Paid courses often offer a more accelerated learning experience, as they are designed to provide you with a focused education in a shorter timeframe. These programs can be beneficial if you prefer a more structured approach to learning and are eager to expedite your entry into the tattoo industry. However, these courses don't guarantee that you'll land your dream tattoo job. Often studios won't accept artists who have done these courses, as many are considered to be of low quality and the artists may not have acquired the necessary skills for tattooing. It may be more beneficial to join a reputable studio and pursue an unpaid apprenticeship.

When considering an apprenticeship or a paid course, it's vital to research and choose a reputable tattoo studio or training institution. Look for establishments with experienced artists who have a strong reputation in the industry and a willingness to share their knowledge. At our studio, we have only offered standard apprenticeships in the past as we believe this gives the artists a 100% success rate of becoming successful tattoo artists.

We have also explored introductory courses for those who are interested. These courses offer various options to cater to different preferences.

One option:

a fun one-night event, such as a sip and paint night in the studio. During this event, a small class of participants can get a hands-on experience of tattooing synthetic skin to see if it sparks their interest. It's a fun and enjoyable way to try out tattoo equipment. Alternatively, we also offer a more serious week-long course for those who are looking for a more in-depth learning experience.

OPTION 2:

we are considering offering a three-month course in 2024 for $5800. This course wpould offer a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses various aspects of tattoo artistry. Students will receive extensive training on drawing techniques, utilizing the iPad app Procreate to create tattoo designs. They will also be taught how to operate tattoo equipment and follow health and safety protocols while practicing on synthetic skins. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to practice with a diverse range of tattoo equipment. The culmination of the course will involve students creating their own unique tattoo on a chosen model. This course aims to provide students with a well-rounded understanding and practical experience in the art of tattooing.

if either of these courses piques your interest, please don't hesitate to let us know and express your desire to participate.

We wish you the very best in your pursuit of becoming a professional tattoo artist. Remember, dedication, perseverance, and a genuine passion for the art form are key to a successful career in this industry.
